International Conference on Economics and Business Inaugurated at KIIT University

Bhubaneswar: An International Conference on 'Economic & Business' was inaugurated at KIIT University by Shri P. C. Ghadei, Hon'ble Minister of Finance and Excise, Govt. of Odisha.

The two-day conference was organized by KIIT University in collaboration with three prestigious universities- National Taipei University (NTPU), Taiwan, Ataturk University, Turkey and Czech University of Life Sciences (CULS), Prague, Czech Republic. Prof. J. Horn, Dean, CULS, Prof. Wenchang Fang, Dean, NTPU, Prof. Fahri Yavuz, Advisor to the President & Head International Programme, Ataturk University, Dr. Satyendra Patnaik, Rector, KIIT and Mr. B. N. Rath, Director, International Relation graced the inaugural ceremony.

Odisha is making rapid progress and making its contribution in India's march to become an economic superpower, said Shri Ghadei in his inaugural address.

More that 30 delegates from prestigious universities abroad and India are participating and presenting research papers on various issues relating to business and economics at the conference. Forty papers out of many have been selected by an expert committee. These papers have been divided in categories like agricultural economics, economic management, social issues, eco-tourism and tourism. The conference will also deliberate on important issues of industrialization, displacement, proposed MMDR Act, land acquisition for industry, impact of globalization & tourism, comparative studies on Indian & Chinese economy, etc.

Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS extended his gratitude to the guests and welcomed the participants to KIIT University. KIIT & KISS are the best examples to understand how business and economy work here, said Dr. Samanta.

WARGASM (The Rock Night)

Devil's own music with the screeching guitars and the pulsating drums, this one’s a must-attend for all compulsive head bangers out there. With bands like Pentagram, Moksha, Mother Jane, and Parikrama playing out their tunes to the audience, this event is the niche attraction at THOMSO. It includes a competition of upcoming, amateur bands dreaming to make it big, with the winner performing live onstage with BENEA REACH (Grammy nominated), coming straight from Norway to endorse IIT Roorkee.

 Xhileration (The Professional Nights)

This year, Thomso’s most awaited evenings would witness more than one professional artiste. One would be an exclusive Gazal performance by gazal maestros like Jagjit Singh & Pankaj Udhas. The other would be a live onstage performance by celebrity artistes like Shaan, Sonu Nigam, KK. An extremely thrilling event to be introduced for the first time that would set the roads of IIT Roorkee on fire. The extreme biking road show would feature the most daredevil stuntmen of India making you realize the futility of having more than one tyre in a bike with their display of wheelies, stoppies, burnouts and many more heart stopping stunts.  Mr. & Ms. Thomso

This time its gonna be something very big, something universal. Mr. & Ms. Thomso goes global with the beautiful eves and dashing guys competing online, for the coveted titles. The fight for the crown starts online with janta polling for their own choices before it lands into the final battleground at IIT Roorkee during Thomso’08. The crown would come with brand incentives. This time it will have an online prelim round too.

Thomso is one of the biggest youth festivals of India. The scale and importance of the fest in this region is apparent with its declaration as the "Annual Youth Festival of Uttarakhand", by the Government of Uttarakhand. For this coming academic session, Thomso will be held from 29th October to 1st November 2009.

As excellence has always been a tradition of IIT Roorkee, every year, Thomso gets bigger and better. We thus endeavor to make Thomso'09, the biggest, grandest and the best ever. Thomso'09 is expected to have a participation of 7500 students from IITs, NITs and many other colleges across the country, apart from the 6000 students of IIT Roorkee, who gather at a place and celebrate the richness of our culture and intellect.
